Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and is also the most powerful female officer in the history of America. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and also as an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her name is well-known due to the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
